Project Reveal: Memorial Drive Condo

Memorial Drive is one of my absolute favourite drives in Calgary. The trees, the river, the beautiful downtown skyline...what more could you want (other than a few mountains thrown in there)? When I was approached by these clients to do a condo facelift I immediately responded with, "When can we start!?".

The first impression this condo gave was nothing short of dark, dated, and complete bachelor pad. I knew we really had to make this space special as the clients were downsizing from a large custom-built home and already had a few apprehensions.

Have a peek for yourself of the before photos to get an idea of what we were working with (beige walls, orange-toned hardwood, dark cabinetry, etc.):

My inspiration for this home came from the river and the city skyline right outside their living room windows. Mixing metals with bright and calming elements completely transformed the space from the top down!

Now, to be completely transparent with you, we didn't want to spend major bucks on this facelift as we were focusing on creating a space to sell within the next 5 years. All of the cabinets you see in the transformation photos are the existing ones that we just freshened up with paint. We also refinished the hardwood floors with a custom grey-wash stain, added some architectural elements with wall moulding (and brighter paint for the walls), updated the light fixtures, replaced the old granite with quartz, and increased the resale value with some new tile in the bathrooms.

We didn't empty any wallets and still achieved a sophisticated retreat along the river.

After a year, I am happy to share the final transformation photos with you! This is a project I am truly proud of, not because I created a beautiful space but because I created a beautiful relationship with these clients (did I mention I spent last Saturday morning sitting with them at their island sipping coffee, eating fresh scones talking about everything under the sun!?). It was a sad day when I had to hand the keys back over knowing I would need to ask for permission now to see the space, but I am ready to let the clients fully enjoy it and make it their home.
