Pillow Talk - DIY

Give me all of the pillow talk...especially when it involves talking about creating a pillow that has texture, tassels, and hearts!

I am not one to celebrate Valentine's Day but I will never turn down the opportunity to bring a little more love in to the home in the form of a cute pillow. Not only is this SUPER easy to make but it will add a festive touch that isn't too cheesy or full of calories.

S U P P L I E S

- 1 Pillow Cover, any size or colour (I got the pink cover from Ikea)
- Pillow insert to match the size of the cover
- 1 sheet of Pleather, size depends on how many circles your want to make. I used a 11"x14" sheet of white pleather (Fabricland offers pleather in many colours, textures and patterns)
- A round object to trace, in the desired size (I used a mini plant pot)
- 2 packs of embroidery thread, any colour (Michaels offers plenty of colours!)
- Scrap of cardboard
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun & glue
- Thread
- Sew Needle
- Pen

STEP ONE

Using your round object, trace out multiple circles on the back side of your pleather. I ended up needing 28 circles (approx. 2" diameter). It is always better to cut more then you think you will need!

STEP TWO

Lay your circles on your pillowcase to get an idea of layout & if you will need anymore circles.
Row 1 - 2 (Top of the Heart)
Row 2 - 3
Row 3 - 6
Row 4 - 5
Row 5 - 4
Row 6 - 2
Row 7 - 1 (Bottom of Heart)

STEP THREE

To make the tassels you will wrap the embroidery thread around the scrap cardboard, cut to approx. 2"H x 5"W (increase or decrease depending on the size of tassel you want). One the embroidery thread is fully wrapped, take your scissors and only cut along ONE edge of the cardboard.

STEP FOUR

Carefully remove the embroidery thread from the cardboard, keeping the uncut edge (loops) all together. Split in half to create 2 tassels. Pinch the loops together and using sewing thread, wrap it multiple times around the group of embroidery thread and tie tight.

STEP FIVE

Now that all the prep is done, it is time for the fun part! Why don't you take a break and grab yourself a glass of wine or cup of tea.

To attach the tassels, thread a needle and pass it through the loop end of the tassel.

STEP SIX

Once the tassels are attached lay out the circles and attach them using the hot glue gun, starting at the top of the heart. I recommend placing a few dots of glue at first and go back to reinforce when needed.

STEP SEVEN

Stuff the cover with the pillow insert and get ready to receive multiple compliments from your guests!
